Rare and Blue: It's out there waiting for you ...

We came across this couple last July in the Gravelly Mountains near Ennis, Montana.

What a way to revel in the beauty of wildflowers, plop down right in the middle of them!

Here's hoping you find your staircase to heaven.

About Me

My name is Connie and I write children’s books. A while ago I wrote a book called RARE AND BLUE. It’s about rare blue things found in the natural world—amazing blue things from the very small to the very large. Things like blue lobsters, Karner blue butterflies, blue whales and prairies of Big Bluestem grass. My book ends with the rarest, blue thing of all, which is of course home to all the other rare, blue things: planet earth.

Then one day I read about the Kepler telescope going into deep space with a mission to find exoplanets, ie. earth-like planets that could sustain life. Planets that might be as beautiful and blue as ours. Some scientists think it is highly likely, others are not so sure. They do seem to agree that we will know the answer in a few short years.

So, what does that mean for me and my book? Well, if other blue planets are found, then I’ll need to change the end of my book. But if no other "Goldilocks" planets are found, then earth is even more rare. Either way there is much for us to ponder.

While I’m waiting for answers I'll continue to celebrate more rare and blue things on the home planet that cross my path and yours. Sometimes waiting isn’t such a bad thing …
